BRING ME THE HORIZON | 23/11/18

Updated: Mar 4, 2019

Bring Me The Horizon, alternative rock powerhouses took to the stage at Arena Birmingham on Friday 23rd November 2018 as part of their “First Love World Tour”. If you aren’t already aware, the Sheffield based band have released a variety of records ranging from deathcore to alternative rock over the course of their career. Most notable of their discography is their 2015 album “That’s The Spirit”, which very quickly gained platinum status in Australia and gold in many other countries. Their current tour is in preparation for their new album “amo”, due for release in 2019.

YONAKA

Kicking off the night was a UK based alternative/indie rock band named Yonaka. If you’re looking for passion and attitude, this is the band for you. The fusion of alternative rock with a strong female lead makes for a fresh and bouncy sound. They certainly put on a show and played their most popular hits such as “Creature” and “Our Own Worst Enemy”. The most memorable of the four-piece was George Edwards (guitar). He completely stole the show with his lively and dedicated approach to the performance. They are a brilliant young band with huge potential and I really look forward to hearing more from them in the future. Check out some of the shots below.

THE FEVER 333

An interesting new band that primarily bases their sound around the nu-metal and rapcore genres. Their overall attitude and approach to current political issues hints that they could be influenced by “old school” nu-metal bands such as Rage Against the Machine and Linkin Park. It’s very refreshing to see that these styles are making a comeback and once again earning their spot within the metal scene. The performance complemented their sound very well. Aggressive scenes took the crowds by surprise as drums were thrown, backdrops torn down and microphones swung around the stage. As if that wasn’t enough, Jason Aalon Bulter (vocals) then proceeded to climb the walls. The sheer adrenaline you felt whilst watching him hang from the structures around the room was nothing short of incredible. The whole set was exceptional and left me with wanting to see more. Their debut album “Strength in Numb333rs” is due for release next year. Check out some of the pictures below!

BRING ME THE HORIZON

Shortly after 9:20pm, Bring Me The Horizon took to the stage. They kicked off with Mantra, their hit single released back in August of this year. Shortly followed by House of Wolves, a much loved track amongst all fans. They went on to play all of their classics such as Shadow Moses, Go to Hell, for Heavens Sake and Can You Feel My Heart (just to name a few).

We wanted heavy and boy, these guys finally delivered. A medley was played that included old-era BMTH tracks such as RE: They Have No Reflections, Diamonds Aren’t Forever, Medusa and The Comedown. It was wonderful to see the band revisit their deathcore roots in a live setting – something that we were all so certain wouldn’t happen again. The set list was nothing short of perfect for any Bring Me The Horizon fan, old or new.

Their performance was absolutely phenomenal, the passion seen to be felt on stage was almost euphoric to watch - to be able to experience the chemistry each member had with one another was wonderful. Not forgetting the brilliant interaction that Oli Sykes had with the crowd. To see a Bring Me The Horizon show really is an opportunity not to be missed. If breath-taking light shows, good music and great stage presence is what you’re looking for, then look no further. Bring Me The Horizon is one of the best bands I’ve ever seen live (there is a very long list of them!) and my suggestion would be to get yourself down to a show as soon as possible. Check out some of the pictures below!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the night. I thought all three of the bands did an exceptional job and delivered great things. It lived up to my expectations and I would definitely revisit it, should I ever get the chance.
