CONSUMED BY CHAOS EP REVIEW - SIOBHAN MAZZEI

“Consumed By Chaos”, the most recent EP and third release by Leicester based singer-songwriter, Siobhan Mazzei hit all major streaming platforms in 2018. The four-track EP packs a huge punch. Mazzei’s powerful, rich and alluring vocals (much like Florence Welch) fused with impressive melodic rock riffs is without a doubt a sound to be envious of. Mazzei has been gracing our ears with her monumental song writing abilities for years, however with the help of her backing band (Tom Scarlett – lead guitar, Joe Doyle – bass and Les Hayden on drums), her drive and capacity to produce such material is now stronger than ever.

The EP isn’t to be mistaken for being just another rock record. The Siobhan Mazzei Band are almost impossible to group into just one genre. As a matter of fact, I’d go as far as saying they aren’t a genre at all and they’ve built themselves to be one of the most unique and freshest groups around. The record is filled to the brim with talent, emotion and passion. I could go on, the list is endless.

In my opinion, “Never There” and “Recycled” are the two most compelling tracks included on the EP. Both carry a catchy head-bopping feel along with delicate yet edgy factors. The instrumentals are euphoric, strong and Mazzei’s lyrics are nothing short of excellent. Material of this standard comes only from seasoned and smart musicians – and I think it’s safe to say that The Siobhan Mazzei Band are exactly that. Other tracks on the EP include “What Have I Become” and “I’m Not Scared” two songs that have chill factor, but with added punch. They have that feel good factor that makes you hungry for more.

Overall, I think “Consumed By Chaos” is an outstanding piece of art and brings only good impressions towards the sheer talent and potential we have within our local music scene. I’ll be really excited to hear more of Mazzei in the future. As if that wasn’t enough, the band have written and produced all of their current releases independently. This sends an empowering message out to other small local bands within our scene and continues to be an advocate for up and coming artists. If you haven’t already listened to “Consumed By Chaos”, you need to. I highly suggest you take 19 minutes out of your day to check it out, as I don’t think any review of this band on the web can do justice. You can catch Siobhan Mazzei at the Acoustic Rooms in Nottingham on the 11th March 2019.
